  12. This document provides important information that wasn't available when the jewel case insert was printed.  Please read this document before using Farcus, The 1st Treasury.

  20. A. Installation Instructions

To install Farcus, The 1st Treasury simply double-click the Farcus Installer file and follow the instructions.  The installer will install the Farcus application and associated Guide file in a folder named Farcus, The 1st Treasury.  This folder will be placed within the Corel CD Home folder if one already exists on your system, otherwise a CD Home folder will be created.

In addition to the application and Guide file, the installer will copy the latest version of the AppleGuide extension (v2.0.2), the file AppleScriptLib, and the AppleScript extension to your System Folder.  In addition if you are running System Software version 7.0 or 7.1 the file 7.0/7.1 Apple Guide Enabler will be copied to your System Folder.

  30. B. Optimizing your System

  33. The performance of Farcus, The 1st Treasury is influenced by a number of factors including the speed of your Macintosh, the speed of your CD-ROM drive and the way your system is configured.  For optimal performance disable Virtual Memory and enable 32-bit addressing.

  35. To disable Virtual Memory and enable 32-bit addressing:
  36.    1. Select Control Panels from the Apple menu.
  37.    2. Open the Memory Control Panel.
  38.    3. Click the Off button in the Virtual Memory section.
  39.    4. Click the On button in the 32-bit Disc Addressing section.
  40.    5. Close the Memory Control Panel

  42. If you still find that Farcus, The 1st Treasury is running slowly after checking the above items, try reducing your monitor color settings to 256 colors.   Reducing the color setting may help increase the performance on slower systems.

  44. To change your monitor color setting to 256 colors:
  45.    1. Select Control Panels from the Apple menu.
  46.    2. Open the Monitors Control Panel.
  47.    3. Choose 256 colors.
  48.    4. Close the Monitors Control Panel

  50. C. Troubleshooting

  53. 1. Cannot mount the Farcus CD-ROM disk after installing
  54. --------------------------------------------------
  55. If you are using the CorelSCSI extension to control your CD-ROM drive you must rename it to avoid a conflict with AppleGuide which prevents your CD-ROM disc from mounting on the desktop.

  57. To rename the CorelSCSI extension:
  58.    1. Open the System Folder on your Startup volume.
  59.    2. Open the Extensions folder.
  60.    3. Select 'by Name' from the View menu.
  61.    3. Locate the ~CorelSCSI! extension (likely near the end of the list of files).
  62.    4. Rename the ~CorelSCSI! extension to 1CorelSCSI! or something similar to make it list before the AppleGuide extension.
  63.    5. Close the Extension folder window.
  64.    6. Close the System folder window.
  65.    7. Restart your Macintosh.
